Data Engineer Contract

The Block delivers deep insight into how the emerging digital assets sector interacts with traditional finance, technology, governments, and markets. We reach hundreds of thousands of technologists, financial market participants, Fortune 500 professionals, global service providers, policymakers, and more through our main website, dedicated Research Portal, podcast, and events.You will be responsible for developing new data offerings, developing and supporting solutions for product analytics, and capturing feedback from our logging and debugging services to both troubleshoot and make improvements.An effective Data Engineer should be able to effectively communicate with the Product & Engineering team while developing ETL pipelines that support our data and analytics product efforts. The ideal candidate must be able to prioritize tasks and complete them in a timely manner.

Description of Role

    • We have a list of Exchange APIs that we would like to create data extract and load jobs.
    • This will be 4-6 weeks of contractor job.
    • Each pair of extract and load jobs will be housed in Airflow.
    • Your job will be to create the tasks/DAGs in Airflow (Python).
    • The extract job will consist of:

    • Pulling data from the API
    • Applying any necessary data transformations (i.e. timestamps, rename columns, etc)
    • Store raw data into S3
    • The Load job will consist of:

    • Reading data from S3
    • Loading data into Redshift
    • As part of the load job, you’ll need to use DBT to transform data
    • Create queries in Redash (from wherever the respective load job ends) that replicates the data needed per API. The logic needed to replicate may be done in full or in part through the SQL query, or during the extract phase
