About the role:

The Tax Planning Team at Kraken is charged with managing the firm’s overall tax structure, strategically planning Kraken’s tax structure, and partnering with commercial functions to provide expert tax advice to help guide Kraken’s supercharged growth
  We manage the risks associated with the rapidly changing tax environment surrounding cryptocurrency, and work together with stakeholders to ensure our operating models are tax efficient and compliant
  We are a collaborative team of tax professionals excited by the opportunity to be challenged by a completely new and emerging field of tax law
  We work across numerous functions within Kraken on a regular basis, and work with each other to tackle challenging and technical tax issues quickly in partnership with product, finance, legal, business development, and other functions
  This critical role as the Tax Research & Planning Senior will work closely with Tax Leadership, interact regularly with other tax and finance professionals, and work across other functions here at Kraken
  This role reports to the Senior Manager of Tax Planning & Controversy

What You'll Do:

    • Collaborate with the Tax planning team to execute projects, processes, and delivering to our Tax function and business partners
    • Work with Tax, Product, and Operations teams on tax planning initiatives across the organization
    • Support the Tax function on interpreting and analyzing new and existing tax guidance and apply to complex and cutting-edge tax matters in the developing cryptocurrency and fintech arena
    • Help develop and build out our tax organization modeling, processes and procedures
    • Draft technical internal documentation on tax positions and guidance and protocols for internal use and to help guide the tax function
    • Remain current with the latest tax news and proactively identify tax risks and opportunities and communicate opinions to Tax leadership
    • Supporting M&A transactions, product development, regional expansion, and other partnerships

Who You Are:

    • At least 2-4 years of experience in income tax planning and hands on experience in implementing tax strategies
    • Tax technical knowledge of US corporate income tax (federal) including exposure to financial products and financial services institutions
    • Familiarity with US international tax (, FDII, GILTI, Subpart F, Foreign Tax Credits, BEAT, US withholding tax, US tax treaties, transfer pricing, etc
      )
    • Exposure to international tax regimes, including direct and indirect taxes (, VAT, GST, DST)
    • Exposure to performing quantitative modeling of tax consequences
    • Strong writing skills and experience drafting solid technical tax memoranda
    • Strong verbal skills and comfortable in communicating technical tax matters to non-tax professionals
    • Bachelor’s degree and either CPA or law degree; Masters in Tax or LL
