Chief Marketing Officer

About Brave

Brave is on a mission to save privacy on the web. We make a web browser which protects privacy by blocking tracking by default, right out of the box. We offer completely private ads (opt-in!) as an alternative to the invasive surveillance online so that you can directly contribute to the sites you visit and appreciate. Brave is a brand that stands for privacy and provides a platform to launch multiple offerings to users that they can trust with their data and security.

Brave just passed 25m monthly active users and we are growing at more than one million per month — the bulk coming organically.

Our roughly 120-person team orbits a “main” office of about 30 in San Francisco with smaller clusters or individual contributors spread around the world. Our work style combines an in-person culture in the SF office with remote-inclusive practices emphasizing live conversations by video call and fast and slow chat on Slack. Brave’s technical life is centered around GitHub, where we design, deliver, and document our work.

Brave is a start-up, and we have the ability to change plans quickly in response to new information or circumstances. This means that new needs can emerge on short notice, and projects are often re-mixed and adjusted in response to new input.

About the Role

Brave is looking for an accomplished Chief Marketing Officer to join our marketing team in San Francisco, reporting to our Chief Business Officer. The right candidate will have experience creating a world class consumer brand. As we grow our brand, message and communications will set the standard for the next wave of privacy centric products. Brave will continue to be a leader in online privacy but also have a product that is accessible to everyone.

Some of the attributes we are looking for in candidates:

Leadership. We are going into uncharted territory and are looking for a leader that can galvanise a team to reach extraordinary goals.

Brand building and storytelling. To date our brand has been associated with privacy and tech savvy users. Going forward Brave is a product for everyone. Online privacy has come of age. Users can now get privacy with a better user experience.

User growth. In 2020 our user growth accelerated, reaching 25 million monthly users in January 2021. The right candidate will have a track record of explosive consumer adoption in competitive markets. Goal: Lead the team to 100m MAU.

Mission. Brave is a mission lead company and online privacy is in our DNA. We are looking for someone that can evangelise our mission and make it accessible to the masses.

Passion for online privacy and the future of the internet. By its nature online privacy is a technical topic, but the ramifications affect everyone. Passion goes a long way in helping Brave realize a better, more private web.

Core Requirements

  1. Ability to build a world class consumer brand
  2. Can articulate the Brave mission and vision to a mainstream audience
  3. Proven track record of outstanding user growth
  4. Superb analytical skills
  5. Demonstrated ability to lead and inspire a team
  6. Outstanding communication and interpersonal skills
  7. Flexibility and creative problem solving
  8. Entrepreneurial spirit
  9. Passionate about online privacy and the future of the web

Responsibilities

You don’t need to have experience doing all of these things already. But you should be excited about getting to work on these sorts of projects.

  • Turn the Brave brand into a household name globally
  • Drive Brave’s user growth in all geographies
  • Lead and develop our talented marketing team
  • Communicate Braves mission and core message to a mainstream audience.
  • Work closely with our engineering and design teams to keep our marketing and communications in lockstep with our product
  • Work closely with our C-team to develop innovative marketing strategies

Compensation

This is a full time position based in our office in SOMA, San Francisco. Your compensation includes a competitive salary, comprehensive medical, vision, and dental benefits, as well as a generous 401(k) contribution. Working hours are flexible and a certain degree of working from home (or otherwise outside the office) is expected. Brave does not put a limit on the total amount of personal time off you take in a year, but expects that any particular vacation/recreation will be limited to two continuous weeks or less.   We offer a pre-tax commuter benefit program and regular in-office lunches, coffee & tea, and a generous array of catered snacks.

Application

Please submit a resume or CV along with a cover letter articulating your interest and experience. Please attach a selection of clips demonstrating your writing range and showing the work most relevant to this role. Core Developer – Runtime (m/f/d)

At Parity Technologies we have built and launched next generation blockchain networks like Kusama and Polkadot atop the Substrate blockchain framework. These networks provide the largest staking platforms, the most advanced on-chain governance systems, fast and efficient cryptocurrencies, and more. All of these systems are powered by FRAME and the Runtime Pallets included with Substrate, which are available for all Substrate developers to use.

What you will do

We are looking to expand the team which develops these core runtime systems. This involves maintenance of existing pallets, modifications and upgrades for the needs of the network, and even entirely new pallets which provide value to our end users.

As a part of your job, you will need to design crypto-economically sound protocols which incentivize and control the behavior of anonymous and potentially malicious actors. You need to write comprehensive tests or even try to attack our systems in the same ways malicious actors will. You will need to architect migration utilities to allow existing networks to use new features and functionalities seamlessly. You will need to provide support to developers who may want to integrate and use FRAME and these runtime pallets.

Beyond the development of the runtime systems, you will also work to develop FRAME itself. Your research and development of user friendly APIs will make your life and the lives of other runtime developers more easy. This involves writing Rust macros and developing new utility libraries.

Responsibilities

In the context runtime development within Substrate, we expect you to (among other things):

  • Research and learn about the end users of our network.
  • Engage with council and governance systems which give direction to the development of our networks.
  • Write clean, functional, and “absolutely correct” code for our blockchains.
  • Develop crypto-economically sound protocols which incentivize behaviors we want.
  • Manage complex state machines which are resistant to attacks.
  • Potentially contribute to JavaScript frameworks to enable users to easily access new features.
  • Collaborate with other members of the team and open-source contributors

Benefits

  • Working at Parity means focusing on the stuff that counts: building of the most cutting-edge technology for the future web. Our teams enjoy a high degree of trust, freedom and autonomy to achieve that goal.
  • Because we value initiative and learning, we’ve defined a generous personal budget to attend conferences or skills courses of your own choosing. We think you know what’s best for you!
  • Parity is a diverse company with people from various countries and we will support you with German language courses where needed.

Successful applicants for this role will have a very strong engineering background, experience as a product manager or owner, and experience in the blockchain industry.

As a member of NEAR’s product team, you will shape the direction of our core platform and tooling.  Many of our product managers are also team leads, and you will be expected to operate in similar capacity. This includes identifying opportunities for improving our products, achieving buy-in from the team, and overseeing implementations

Requirements

  • 3+ years as a PM or engineer/founder with experience delivering technical products and owning strategic roadmaps in startup environments.
  • Clear product vision and proven ability to execute across all areas of product strategy, development, and project management.
  • Experience and interest in highly technical products.
  • Strong communication skills, especially written

Nice-to-haves

  • Open source contributions and previous or continued involvement in open source communities
  • Familiarity with blockchain technologies
  • Familiarity with Rust

The NEAR platform, NEAR Protocol and associated tooling are being built by the NEAR Collective, a collection of the best engineers in the world who work across teams, companies and countries similar to other large scale open source projects. Core contributors include a couple of 2-time ICPC world champions, 2 gold medalists, a Latin American champion and multiple other competitive programming finalists.

Working at NEAR

This is a remote contracted position.
