ShapeShift is seeking a Senior Communications Manager to propel the company’s corporate and brand storytelling through effective strategy and consistent messaging. You will oversee the development of brand and public relations collateral, execute on internal and external communications, liaise with media to build effective relations, and assist with overall media strategies. 

The primary goal of the Senior Communications Manager is to influence strategy and execute on campaigns to drive success. A successful candidate will be able to seamlessly context switch between developing high-level strategy and daily campaign execution with ease. The ideal candidate will be an effective team player/coach, a natural extrovert, and possess a drive to influence media channels and insert the company narrative at every point possible. This person is equally comfortable with brand narrative as they are with corporate narrative, and is excited by the startup pace and the opportunity that comes with it.

This is a full-time position, based in Denver, Colorado or fully remote when able to operate in western time zones, and reports to the Chief Growth Officer.

WHAT YOU’LL DO

• Work with the Chief Growth Officer to drive strategy and execute effective media and communications campaigns 
• Define key performance indicators for each communications channel which will indicate a campaign’s level of success
• Maintain strong relationships with media, agencies and industry influencers, at a national and global level
• Determine strategic communications campaigns that will help further organizational goals
• Create internal communications protocols and initiatives that will continue to foster our strong team culture
• Oversee the creation of marketing and communications collateral to ensure that it is consistent with the organization’s brand and corporate communications strategy, including email, white papers, website copy, video, imagery, and more
• Develop, implement and manage our social media strategy including important social media KPIs

WHAT YOU BRING TO THE TABLE 

• 5-7 years experience working in a communications, public relations, or marketing role
• Proven success designing and executing communications strategies and campaigns
• Superior written and verbal communications skills
• Product communications experience
• Experience building consensus among multiple internal stakeholders
• Experience managing reactive communications
• Corporate and agency experience preferred

Once developers join us, your job will be to build relationships and learn from those relationships via their experiences so that you can help keep each developer active and happily building. Education is crucial to the long term adoption of any new platform. The developer advocate we are looking for here specializes in education. Meaning not only do you enjoy teaching but further, you are constantly striving for the feeling you get when one of your student’s eyes lights up with understanding.

Frankly speaking, you’ll be wearing many hats. As NEAR’s core protocol is developed, you will be a key interface with the early community of adopters that are so crucial to our current and future success. You’ll need to build developer tools (often from scratch), write and present demos, tutorials, and practical examples of common and often novel implementations. 

You will be a visible presence representing NEAR in communities around the world by working directly with our events and community teams. You’ll be speaking, hosting workshops, supporting developers at events, and much more. What you learn from our community of developers will be what NEAR’s North Star is in shaping the development and education roadmaps of our future. 

This is a role that will allow you to build real software, yes. But it is also a role where you will be very visible. You’ll act as a soothsayer between our community of developers and our team of core contributors with your weapon of choice being documentation and developer education.  In other words, this role is one part engineering, one part community, and one part education with a sprinkle of marketing, PR, and a cherry on top.

Key Outcomes

• Build demos, SDKs, and implementations to help bring early customers onto the platform
• Work with the team to produce technical tools and educational materials necessary to create an amazing developer experience
• Represent NEAR as a technical voice at major events and conferences, including speaking and supporting platform development

Key Requirements

• 4+ years in software engineering at top companies
• 2+ years in evangelism, education or other public-facing technical roles
• Experience working with blockchain technologies (eg DApp development)
• A strong track record of speaking, presenting and teaching highly technical topics

The project & role 

We are looking for candidates who are passionate about DevEx (developer experience), Web3 and who would relish the opportunity to lead the push to integrate decentralized M2M messaging into both our mobile and desktop products and 3rd party wallets.

There is a new team taking birth within , a team that will focus on building adoption of Waku M2M (machine to machine) messaging with DApps and wallets. In the original vision Ethereum is seen as a triad of three components: a blockchain, a decentralized storage layer and a messaging layer.  Our goal is to create a fully decentralized messaging layer that can be directly used by DApps alongside the Ethereum blockchain, building on top of Whisper’s legacy.

At its simplest, to enable DApps to utilize Waku in a completely decentralized fashion, we need to create an API that client side DApp code can use to communicate over Waku via the integration of this API into wallets.

This team’s charter is to define and create the interfaces, libraries, tools, documentation and examples needed to enable the creation of DApps that utilize Waku M2M messaging, and drive the adoption of this functionality with DApp authors and wallets.  Building on top of the work of the existing Waku Infrastructure team, this team will undertake a mix of development tasks (create the interfaces, components and tools to facilitate the creation of Waku M2M enabled Wallets and DApps) and developer relations outreach activity (to promote and support Waku M2M messaging with DApp authors and 3rd party wallets).

Responsibilities:

• Defining an API to expose Waku M2M functionality to DApps, with particular focus on key management
• Work with the Waku infrastructure and Status app teams to build support for this API into Status Mobile and Status Desktop products
• Work with other 3rd party wallet vendors to identify and then build the components needed to make integration of Waku M2M functionality into their wallets as easy as possible
• Support 3rd party wallet vendor with Waku M2M functionality integration and maintenance
• Assist as needed with the creation functionality that leverages Waku M2M e.g.  
•  Drive and maintain the JS implementation of Waku.
• Support evangelizing Waku M2M functionality to the Ethereum developer community

You ideally will have:

• Systems programming experience
• Experience with writing JS libraries that other people rely on
• Interest in Cryptography and understanding of cryptographic principles
• Understanding of key structure and basics of p2p
• Not afraid of static languages
• In practical terms, running Nim and Nim-Waku and making small modification/debugging API
• Experienced open source author, ideally the owner of an open source library or component that other folks rely on
• Communication skills (written and conversational)

Bonus points if:

• Understanding and experience with libp2p and libp2p-js
• Knowledge and experience with Nim
• Good understanding of Ethereum, Smart Contracts and Web3 tooling 
• Prior experience in a Developer Relationship role or coordination of Open Source communities
• Have worked remote 
• Experience working for an open source organization
