Head of Site Reliability Engineering (m/f)

Your responsibilities:

  • Support, guide, and inspire a team of site reliability engineers to operate our platforms, drive reliability and performance across massive scale by mastering the full depth of the stack
  • Responsibility for maintaining and scaling our platform infrastructure while keeping our core, revenue-critical services and applications fast, stable, reliable and available
  • Responsibility for automation and building automatic systems
  • Solve problems arising from our large-scale operations and ensure that the same mistake/error doesn’t happen twice, whilst constantly thinking of how to automate yourself out of operational tasks
  • Work closely with software engineers to influence and create new designs, architectures and standards and also provide technical consultancy to engineering teams on how to build reliable, scalable and efficient services
  • Participate and drive production readiness reviews and post-mortems
  • Engage in software performance analysis and system-tuning

Your qualifications:

  • Experience working as an SRE manager or in a similar technical leadership position at a IaaS or/and cloud services provider
  • Systems Engineering – large-scale system design exposure, in-depth understanding of Linux systems internals, TCP/IP networking, Infiniband, storage technologies
  • Cloud Engineering – Strong experience with AWS or Google Cloud Platforms, solid understanding of performance and scalability requirements, security practices, automation and monitoring
  • Passion for building, leading and nurturing successful engineering teams
  • Good understanding of ITSM practices
  • ITIL certification is a plus
  • A clear and fluid communication style when articulating your ideas

Head of Platform Engineering Network (m/f)

The Head of Platform Engineering ‘Network’ is responsible for all aspects of planning and operating ProfitBricks’ network resources (virtualized and non-virtualized) which form the foundational part of our infrastructure services. Our proposition is to have a high-performing IaaS offering at reasonable costs for our business customers, and you take on responsibility for both the strategic and the operational aspects of our network infrastructure. With a good sense for the IaaS market you know what our competitors are doing and have a view on current and upcoming storage technologies and draw the right conclusions for our product offering. Together with your team of engineers you initiate and manage development projects to continuously improve our product offering in terms of functionality, performance, scalability and reliable operations.

Your responsibilities:

  • Support, guide, and inspire a team of engineers to develop and operate our network infrastructure, drive reliability and performance across massive scale by mastering the full depth of the stack for our network infrastructure
  • Evaluate upcoming technology trends and what they mean for ProfitBricks. Initiate and manage projects to continuously enhance our platforms and make them future-proof
  • Responsibility for maintaining and scaling our network infrastructure while keeping our revenue-critical services and applications fast, stable, reliable and available
  • Solve problems arising from our large-scale operations and ensure that measures are taken to sustainably eliminate problems and risks
  • Work closely with the business stakeholders to influence and create new designs, architectures, and standards
  • Participate and drive production readiness reviews and postmortems
  • Engage in software performance analysis and system-tuning

Your qualifications:

  • Experience working as a Platform Engineering Manager or in a similar technical leadership position at a IaaS or cloud services provider.
  • In-depth knowledge in virtualized and non-virtualized network infrastructure within highly scalable cloud infrastructures.
  • Solid know how of Infiniband.

  • Solid database and data modelling knowledge (NoSQL – e.g. Aerospike, Hive; and SQL – e.g. MySQL, MemSQL)
  • Hands-on experience with unit testing (e.g. JUnit, Mockito)
  • Good Linux know-how, good understanding of HTTP, TCP and networking, ideally experience with Docker
  • Fluent in English
  • Systematic thinking and fast comprehension
  • Team player!
