Lead Software Engineer, Consumer Applications

No matter how powerful and flexible you build a platform, at the end of the day it’s the tools you present to the user that define the experience.  Radix is seeking a veteran agile development lead to build the experiences that will define the future of decentralized finance (DeFi).

DeFi has turned out to be the killer app that is taking public distributed ledgers from niche products for speculators and hobbyists to projects of global economic significance, and with it has come a new paradigm for user interfaces.  Authentication models, interoperability expectations, and the entire concept of user accounts are all undergoing dramatic changes; at Radix you’ll have the opportunity to define the way forward while working at the very cutting edge of a space undergoing furious growth.

Working from a coherent vision and a proposed set of essential products, you will fully flesh out user stories, establish requirements and milestones, and lead small teams of ace developers and testers through rapid cycles of implementation, feedback gathering, and tuning to produce delightful results.

About You

  • You are able to isolate the 90% case for user experiences.  You think in terms of making the most important interactions effortless, rather than making anything possible.
  • You are adept at going from problem statements to solution design, and then breaking that high level design down into discrete segments of useful work.
  • You have a good instinctual feel for the complexity of a development problem, and can quickly determine which things will be risky/challenging and which should be straightforward.
  • You know how to manage the circus while still progressing on your own development tasks, and are comfortable with setting a project schedule and making appropriate compromises to adhere to it.
  • You have released and maintained consumer-facing things in the past; your history is not limited to internal business applications.
  • You’re intelligent and learn quickly.  Absolutely no one at Radix winds up only doing what’s in their job description, and adaptability is essential.

About Us

We labor in the service of our great master, Cerberus.  Cerberus is the first model of consensus that delivers high throughput via sharding without sacrificing the central need of decentralized finance—the ability to atomically perform transactions across disparate shards.  We call him “Cerby” for short.

Though geographically diverse, we are an exceptionally close-knit team.  We count on each other, and we take comfort in knowing the team is always there to step in and take up the load when we run into tough problems.  A few times a year we all fly to an exotic destination for a week of planning, hacking, and festivities (except when driven underground by the covid beast).  The anticipation leading up to these “Radix summits” is the adult version of looking forward to your favorite holiday.

Decentralized finance and Ethereum are groaning under the stress of too many users pounding square-peg needs into a round-hole platform.  We went back to first principles to come up with the right solution, and we have already tested out at over 1 million transactions per second.  We have forged a path deep into the future of what distributed ledger technology is going to look like, together with the business case that assures adoption, and we need you to come and be part of the team that is making that happen right now. Join us!

Preferred Qualifications and Competencies

  • 7+ years as a professional software engineer, with at least 2 years in a team lead role.
  • Fluent in Java or C#.
  • Familiar with conducting sprint planning and tracking.
  • Comfortable with asynchronous programming models.
  • Noddingly familiar with the practical aspects of asymmetric cryptography.  No need for the underlying theoretical foundations.

Senior Rust Engineer

We are looking for a Senior Rust Engineer, who will help us build the next-generation decentralized exchange in the Substrate framework. The Substrate is the biggest Rust codebase, operating on the edge of Rust language innovation.

The decentralized exchange (DEX) is connected to Ethereum and other blockchains through bridge technologies. Overall software is a p2p, open-source, complex landscape of parts built in Rust, Typescript, Solidity, and Go. The result of the work is open-sourced.

You will collaborate closely with the CTO and other engineers. It’s welcomed to be interested in other domains of the software, but not necessary. In this position, you will have the opportunity to design and build software that involves a wide variety of considerations including cryptography, security, networking, game theory, economics, finance, political science, and programming language design.

Expect a lot of freedom, fun, and responsibility. You will be working among professionals with a keen sense of software precision and having autonomy over your decisions. The tools used will be explored to their limits and you will have the opportunity to create novel architectural patterns.

With the growth of the company, we like people to grow in technical as well as general leadership.

Personality requirements and skills

We value curiosity: anyone with an expanding mindset is appreciated.
Technology agnosticism: strong opinions, weakly held.
Communication skills: ability to adjust message to a listener and ability to be a listener.

Executive Assistant

Eco puts your money back to work for you — creating the first consumer fintech product whose creators are aligned with its users. Financial infrastructure hasn’t changed since the 1970s. All we’ve gotten are shinier products built on the same broken systems.

The Eco App changes that, starting by building the best place to save and spend your dollars. We combine high-yield savings with rewarded spending in a single, compounding balance that’s easy to manage. Soon we’ll let you pay your bills and put your financial life on autopilot. And through all of this — unlike every other fintech company — we don’t skim from you.

That’s only possible because we’re working to introduce the Eco Currency, a new money built for real people. We believe that cryptocurrencies can fundamentally upgrade traditional money — but that won’t happen without widespread distribution and a path to adoption. The Eco App is the first product to provide such a path, beginning with a familiar interface built for US Dollars and slowly building trust as we educate users on the benefits of this new paradigm.

Every day, we’re working on difficult and impactful problems which demand solutions at the intersection of technology, product, marketing, and advocacy. To achieve our mission and realize our vision, we’ve put together an incredible team and are selectively adding to it. We hope you’ll consider joining us.

As an Executive Assistant at Eco, you will:

  • Support the founders across all facets of their work, enabling the company to move faster and perform better
  • Manage scheduling, travel arrangements, gatekeeping, administrative tasks, document management, and more
  • Build processes to continually uplevel and focus on higher leverage objectives
  • Learn about the founders in-depth and tailor your support to their styles
  • Work during flexible hours — frequently outside of standard 9-5
  • Be a pulse check on culture and employee needs, staying up to date with others at the company
  • Find additional functions to contribute to and grow in — we’re an early-stage company, so all hands are on deck!

We’re looking for you if:

  • You love the feeling of enabling others to perform at their absolute best
  • You value trust above all else and insist on discretion from those around you
  • You’re organized to the point of obsession and care about designing systems that work for others
  • Your friends are amazed at how thoughtful you are — for things like always remembering significant others’ names and sending gifts or notes for important occasions
  • You’re tech-savvy and have experience with Google products, and are comfortable with a wide range of technology (including Slack and other messaging products, task management systems like Asana, and more)
  • You focus on having a “customer service mentality” and understanding the needs of those around you
  • You consider discipline, integrity and unparalleled work ethic to be three of your core values
  • You learn fast, are collaborative by default, and have outstanding communication skills (especially written)
  • You’re a culture champion and excited about delivering a great working environment at Eco

Please note that we are committed to equal employment opportunity regardless of race, background, religion, gender identity, national origin, sexual orientation, age, citizenship status, marital status or disability. We also consider for employment qualified applicants with arrest and conviction records. If you have a disability or special need that requires accommodation, please feel free to let us know.

Head of People

Introduction

The NEAR project is unlike anything else out there — it combines the collaborative community of an open-source project with aspects of developer platforms like Amazon’s AWS.  This provides a unique opportunity for a visionary people leader: you will not just help the NEAR Foundation to build and support its internal team, but you will be a vital part of creating cultural initiatives which echo throughout the ecosystem and affect potentially thousands of participants.  In that way, there is both the scrappy culture of a startup and the impact of a large enterprise or a cultural movement.

About NEAR and the NEAR Collective

NEAR’s purpose is to enable community-driven innovation to benefit people around the world and its mission is to drive the adoption of Open Technologies.  The NEAR platform provides a decentralized application platform that is secure enough to manage high value assets like money or identity and performant enough to make them useful for everyday people, putting the power of Open Finance and the Open Web in their hands.

The NEAR platform, NEAR Protocol, and associated tooling are being built by the NEAR Collective, a collection of the best engineers in the world who work across teams, companies and countries similar to other large scale open source projects. Core contributors include a couple of 2-time ICPC world champions, 4 gold medalists, a Latin American champion and multiple other competitive programming finalists.

About the NEAR Foundation

The NEAR Foundation is a nonprofit, non-beneficiary foundation based in Switzerland which supports community-driven innovation and the Open Web with a specific focus on the NEAR platform. The Foundation distributes grant funding into the NEAR ecosystem, coordinates governance among participants, educates people about the protocol and ensures that relationships among the community members are as strong and sustainable as the apps they build. It seeks to combine the inclusive care of a community-driven NGO with the at-scale effectiveness of a Silicon Valley startup.

The Role

As the NEAR Foundation’s Head of People, you will occupy this driver’s seat position for both the organization and the ecosystem.  At the NF, we are building the team rapidly across every part of our global footprint.  We also support the developers and entrepreneurs of the NEAR ecosystem along their respective journeys as much as we can.  Our goal is to create an inclusive ecosystem where its members grow, learn and collaborate together rather than operate in silos.

To achieve the first part of this, you will need to extend and augment the NF’s existing people operations to handle the scale at which we need to operate.  That includes managing the sourcing and hiring of both executive and individual contributors to support core operational, marketing, community and education functions.  You will also own the implementation of programs which support the culture of the ecosystem as a whole, including everything from skills training to events.  Basically, your mission is to make everyone working not just within the NEAR Foundation but on the NEAR platform to wake up each day excited to be a part of this interconnected community.

Because people are the lifeblood of this team and project, you will have full access to the resources and people you need to facilitate your mission.  You will be expected to own the result and do whatever it takes to get there, including laying out a roadmap and building out your own team along the way.  You will be a visible face of the NEAR ecosystem and will interact frequently with the teams and individuals which comprise it.

To be successful, you will need to bring the unlikely combination of 3 things:

  1. A strong and creative vision for building a world class, people-focused, open source culture
  2. Experience building, leading and managing teams which are people-first but also highly effective and operational
  3. Familiarity with the zeitgeist of the blockchain and developer-focused open source communities

Key Outcomes

  1. Implementation of a clear people and culture plan for the NF and ecosystem
  2. The NF hires the best people quickly for all open positions
  3. The ecosystem attracts and retains the best talent in the world
  4. There are clear pathways for community contributors to uplevel themselves and move from casual contribution to more formal levels of engagement with organizations in the ecosystem.

Requirements

This is a senior-level position which requires someone who combines the experience of working in successful technology ventures with the scrappiness of someone who understands startups and the open source communities we support.  Specifically:

  1. 8+ years of experience working in people operations, recruiting, human resources and similar roles which required you to own both the sourcing and optimization of world class talent.
  2. Demonstrated ability to build world class teams and create strong cultures in large organizations.
  3. Excellent communication skills, particularly in English.

Logistics

This is a full-time, partially remote position with the NEAR Foundation. Preference will be given for candidates located in Switzerland or Germany.
