Responsibilities

    • Support Compliance Officers, business and product heads globally by providing expert advice, guidance, and resources wherever possible to ensure delivery and execution of strategic priorities
    • Product, design and engineering: provide strategic advice and help to build controls to support the firm’s go to market strategies and adjust product features and controls as needed
    • Risk management: oversee and manage Compliance Risk Management Program, eg:
    • Risk assessments 
    • Independent AML analyses 
    • Risk appetite framework 
    • Governance: Develop/enhance governance practices across Compliance (eg Executive and Risk Committees, Compliance lead on functional governance). Lead core documentation on compliance efforts, and ensure proper record-keeping associated with each program
    • Reporting: maintain ongoing reporting to ensure consistent Board level and management oversight of Compliance risk management programs including key performance and risk indicators
    • Vendors: Review vendors and provide oversight in regards to the tools utilized by Corporate Compliance
    • Policies and procedures: oversee Compliance’s library and implement systematic review 
    • Knowledge management: maintain robust framework to enable Krakenites to access key regulatory, organization and governance information 
    • Exam and audit management: enhance program to ensure consistency in communication with all stakeholders globally, including external third parties, consistent delivery of responsive documentation, and tracking/reporting of identified findings and remediation efforts
    • Exchange asset listing framework: provide executive support to list and re-review assets
    • Corporate Operating Model: provide strategic direction on developing the firm as well as compliance operating model and provide ongoing maintenance
    • Compliance Testing: oversee the compliance testing program design, development and implementation. Provide ongoing reporting on the program and support remediation efforts.
    • Mergers & Acquisitions: Provide management and oversight for Compliance due diligence and implementation of new acquisitions.
    • Licensing and registration: provide oversight and support to obtain and maintain consistent with regulatory requirements
    • Marketing: oversee marketing compliance framework and provide reporting on implementation effectiveness and issues 
    • Technology: partner with product, data and engineering teams to review our services, products, controls to  make sure they are in line with regulatory expectations
    • Markets compliance: ensure robust product support is provided from a compliance standpoint to comply with regulatory requirements, including the appropriate reporting obligations
    • Training: oversee the firm’s Compliance training program including tracking and reporting 

Requirements

    • Proactive, strategic, comfortable with navigating ambiguity, bias for action
    • Demonstrated success in scaling operational processes leveraging technology
    • Fluency in English required, additional languages a plus
    • Executive presence and compliance team leadership 
    • Prior experience as a Chief Compliance Officer, BSA Officer, MLRO, or similar role with direct reporting lines to the Board of Directors preferred
    • Significant European regulatory experience is a strong plus including in relation to MiCAR and virtual asset service provider licensing/registrations 
    • Strategic financial crimes and markets compliance experience is important
    • J.D., L.L.M., M.B.A. or other advanced degree is preferred
    • Professional industry certifications such as Certified Anti-Money Laundering Specialist (CAMS), a plus
    • Significant experience in a previous regulatory or compliance managerial position at a crypto, banking, trading, payments, or fintech institution, hyper-growth fintech a plus
    • Experience managing KYC and AML compliance programs in a regulated financial services firm is a plus

Overview

The Trading Engine sits at the core of the BitMEX platform and handles all brokerage and trading aspects.  The Trading Engine team is responsible for order management, risk checking, position keeping, PNL calculations, pricing (derivatives), risk management, market data distribution, order matching, and settlement.

BitMEX is building a best in class Technology team to help us scale the BitMEX trading platform to millions of users and millions of transactions per second. 

Responsibilities

  • Design and development of electronic trading system components and micro-services across order handling, order matching, market data, smart order routing and risk management
  • Development of new models/products/algorithms to further expand BitMEX’s ecosystem, improve user experience and facilitate risk controls – as well as the further optimisation of existing ones, in partnership with other fellow engineers
  • Enhance the platform’s reliability, and consistency through bug fixing, backtesting and automation

Requirements

You follow good principles of software engineering like writing modular, maintainable, clean code, and are used to working in an Agile environment.

  • 3+ years programming experience writing latency sensitive applications in Java or equivalent experience in another OO language, with some experience of Java
  • 1+ years financial experience at a Hedge Fund, Investment Bank, or Exchange developing financial trading applications in equity, FX or derivative product markets, either traditional or crypto-based
  • Strong engineering skill set with firm grasp of fundamental Computer Science principles and a test-driven approach to software development
  • Strong understanding of data structures, algorithms and calculation complexity. 
  • Knowledge of execution algos, risk management systems in investment banks, brokers, mutual funds are great bonuses

In this role, you’ll be tasked with coding, debugging, and collaborating with our front-end developers to build robust and efficient blockchain-based applications. Working closely with a dedicated team of designers and developers, your key responsibility will be to ensure the successful delivery of high-quality, secure, and sustainable code.

Tasks and Responsibilities:

  • Design, develop, and debug smart contracts.
  • Implement integrations with third-party web3 solutions.
  • Participate in the overall application lifecycle, from conception to deployment.
  • Collaborate effectively with front-end developers to integrate user-facing elements with server-side logic.
  • Define and communicate technical and design requirements to the development team.
  • Foster a collaborative and supportive environment.
  • Develop high-quality code that adheres to industry best practices and can be utilized in future projects.
  • Troubleshoot and debug applications to promptly identify and resolve issues.
  • Stay updated with emerging technologies and industry trends.
  • Employ cutting-edge technologies to improve application functionality and efficiency.

The ideal candidate – who you are and requirements:

  • Must be a fluent Russian speaker.
  • B1+ level of English.
  • Living in Cyprus is a big advantage.
  • Willingness to relocate to Cyprus, if not currently residing there, is a big advantage.
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience as a Back-End Developer.
  • In-depth understanding of server-side web applications and API development.
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience with JavaScript.
  • Minimum of 3 years of experience and a proven track record in a Blockchain Engineering role.
  • Experience with blockchain-related development and web3 technologies, such as Web3.js, ethers.js, etc.
  • Experience writing and deploying Solidity smart contracts.
  • Understanding of cryptography principles.
  • Understanding of decentralized storage solutions, such as IPFS, Arweave, and Ceramic.
  • Familiarity with Node.JS and Moleculer.
  • Nice to have: understanding of identity-related technical concepts (OAuth, OpenID, Decentralized Identity / DID, VCs).
  • Nice to have: understanding of zero-knowledge protocols.
  • Nice to have: system architecture and/or distributed systems experience.
  • Possesses critical thinking and problem-solving skills.
  • Strong team player who can collaborate effectively within a multidisciplinary team.
  • Good organizational and time-management skills.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
  • A Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or a similar relevant field is a big advantage.

Senior Detection and Response Engineer, Central Europe

Overview

We are looking for a Senior Detection and Response Engineer to join us in the Security Response Team here at BitMEX. If you have a keen eye for detail and believe that successful Security Response activities begin with proactive hunting and competent engineering, we want to talk to you.

This is a remote position for the Central Europe regions. Occasional overnight and weekend on-calls are required for this role.

Key Responsibilities

  • Responsible for threat detection and monitoring of high fidelity security alerts (that you will have a hand in defining)
  • Perform Incident Response activities to resolve security incidents and minimize risk for the organization
  • Identify security gaps and implement constant improvements to our security stack
  • Communicate effectively with lines of business and clients to address complex information security issues

Qualifications

  • 5+ years of experience working in a Security Operations role and experience handling security incidents from triage to remediation
  • Experience with dealing with a SIEM tool such as Splunk or ELK
  • Working knowledge of cloud technologies such as Amazon Web Services
  • Strong knowledge of Security frameworks such as Cyber Kill Chain and MITRE ATT&CK and how they can be used to understand and defend against cyber attacks.
  • Familiar with shell scripting, or another scripting language such as Python
  • Self-motivated and able to work independently with minimal supervision
  • Those will less experience will be considered for a Detection and Response Engineer position
