Requirements

The Opportunity

    • Manage Indirect Tax (VAT/GST) compliance processes to ensure timely and accurate tax filings in the jurisdictions that Kraken operates in.
    • Work with our external advisors, review deliverables and ensure accuracy of tax returns
    • Coordinate and work with other teams of the Finance Department, e.g. work with Treasury to ensure tax payments are made, work with Accounts Payable to ensure correct tax codes are used, and answer any queries on VAT/GST invoices.
    • Involvement in process improvements and automation projects and ensure indirect tax processes are up to date and documented
    • Work with the wider Tax team on ad-hoc compliance and advisory projects. 
    • Assisting with statutory audits in relation to VAT/GST, and audits/enquiries raised by tax authorities.
    • Supporting with external adviser spend and tracking

Skills you should HODL

    • 3+ years experience in VAT accounting / compliance in EU jurisdictions. 
    • Excellent data analysis skills and working in large datasets
    • Well versed in Excel, able to work in and maintain complex spreadsheets
    • Ability to coordinate, prioritize workload and keep to tight deadlines

Nice to Haves

    • Previous experience in Netsuite, Superset, Tableau
    • Previous exposure in the FinTech/Crypto industry
    • Previous exposure in Digital Services Taxes

This is an entry level position in which you would start in the Account Access group. We are seeking specialists to primarily work between the hours of 15 – 3 UTC. As an Account Security Specialist, you will effectively be acting as a gatekeeper, assisting clients in regaining access to their Kraken accounts and ensuring illicit actors are kept at bay. You will analyze information provided by clients and combine it with a thorough review of Admin logs to determine if we are in contact with the true account owner. An ideal candidate will have very strong attention to detail, critical thinking skills and a healthy level of paranoia. New specialists on the team would start out as a Level 1, where they would be expected to complete a thorough analysis of accounts, and then forward the ticket to senior specialists who would then take the required actions on the account. Level 1 is essentially our training ground with an estimated duration of 2 to 3 months. Once specialists level up to Level 2 and beyond, they will be granted permissions to take actions on accounts. As you level up in Account Access, you may expand into other areas of Account Security, such as Email Issues, Account Closures and Account Security – Investigations.
